WARNING: You're Wasting Time by Not Planning Out Your Vacation

There is enough moving parts of travelling, making sure you know what things to bring on your next trip will make your life much easier. A lot of people will tell you what your packing essentials are; passport, credit card, toothbrush, etc.

That’s all well and good, and remembering to bring those things are definitely a great idea. However, they don’t actually make your life any easier.

That’s why we are providing you a list of 20 life changing things to bring on your next trip that no one tells you about.

Why Plan Ahead of Time?

1. Save Money

I think it is pretty fair to say that everyone knows that booking things out ahead of time is a great way to save money. Whether it be flights, hotels, festival tickets, etc.

This certainly applies to excursions as well.

Not only do you save money, you save yourself from a bad experience too. Or, at least mitigate the probability of you having a bad experience. Many, if not all of these sites, even outside of the ones I will mention, will have some sort of reviews or ratings system.

This is especially important because if you are dropping the cash on a guided tour, you’re going to want a tour guide that knows his or her stuff, and you’re going to want a tour that will actually have made your life better by the end of it.

We will go over the most efficient ways to find and book these activities in a bit, because there are many different avenues you can take to make it happen.

2. Maximize Time

As of right now, I’ve been on a little over 30 trips around Europe and the Middle East. Now, I have amazing memories from each and every single one of those trips, but there was a clear difference in my level of fun from the trips we planned out, versus the trips we kinda just went with the flow.

Prime example: Dubai. We planned Dubai out to the fullest. We knew exactly what we were wanting to do before we got there. This doesn’t mean that every second of every day was on a schedule, no, this just means we had set clear objectives as to what we were wanting to do.

This directly contributed to the fun we had. Most of our trips were spent walking the city, Googling “best places to see in X”, and eating food. On the flip side, Dubai was spent doing those same things, but, we also knew that on day ‘X’ at time ‘X’ we will be going on excursion ‘X’.

This enabled us to still get that raw experience of seeing a new place for the first time, while also taking advantage of some of the amazing opportunities the city had to offer!

3. Create Memories

Now, memories are going to be created regardless of if you plan stuff out or not. And a lot of the time, the best memories are the ones that happen on a whim.

Nonetheless, there are just some memories that can’t be made unless you make a conscious effort to create them.

For example: things like parasailing, jet skiing, snowboarding, going on a hike, and seeing a museum are all examples of things that need to be planned out ahead of time. That is, if you want to save yourself time and money. Buying tickets at the counter when you get there will almost certainly guarantee that you are paying more, or the guy behind the desk tells you they are booked and are no longer letting anyone in.

How to Plan the Perfect Excursions?

1. Trip Advisor

TripAdvisor is absolutely my go to when it comes to finding and booking my adventures.

Remember how I mentioned that I would always Google “things to do in X?” Well, ‘X’ being whatever city I’m in, this 100% of the time led me to TripAdvisor’s website and they had all the best stuff laid out for me.

Included in these listings is both ratings and reviews. And it being the number one travel website, you have access to A LOT of ratings and reviews.

You can go ahead and enter your dates and this will bring up hundreds of options for you during those dates.

It is even broken down by category, so you can filter it to see only what you want to see.

If you want the most out of your trip, I suggest starting with TripAdvisor.

2. Travelocity

Ever wanted to take stunning picture underwater with your phone? Well now you can!

The YOSH Waterproof Phone Pouch is a great tool to have if you are going anywhere that involves water. It allows you to go underwater, up to a certain depth, while keeping your phone completely dry.

Make sure this is on your list of things to bring, this allows you to take stunning pictures you didn’t think were possible!

3. Airbnb

Surprisingly, Airbnb has their own form of activity booking. This is a relatively new feature, maybe added in the last year or two, but they offer excellent tours by just the local experts!

As with the other aspects of Airbnb, people are selling you their time and expertise. This means you won’t be going through a traditional company or other travel agency for this little adventures.

Nope, you’ll be going through people who were born and raised in that area, who know that area better than anyone. This can be an amazing alternative due to the fact that it is more personal, less commercialized, and you can find some amazing deals!

What great about this as well is the fact that there are plenty of reviews, so you can read through them and know exactly what you are getting into!

4. Groupon

If you don’t know, Groupon is a great website and app that gives you by far the best deals. How it works is, these local business will go to Groupon and advertise their discounted services. This grants more exposure to people who are ready to buy which in turn grants them more business. Groupon takes their commission from every sale.

So where do you come into play?

Well you just go ahead and book whatever you want, and enjoy the huge discounts! Simple as that.

They have deals upwards of 50% off on some things! So, I absolutely recommend checking this out as well when you go through and plan your vacation.

In Conclusion

Overall, there is a whole lot more that goes into planning a vacation than just buying plane tickets and booking a hotel.

Ensuring you are creating those amazing memories and maximizing your time there is crucial to a successful trip.

Make sure to do your own research and check out the sites I mentioned above to find the best of the best when it comes to adventures and deals that could save you hundreds.
